University of Ljubljana (UL)

with its rich tradition was founded in 1919. It has approximately 38,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and employs approximately 6,000 higher education teachers, researchers, assistants and administrative staff in 23 faculties, 3 arts academies and 3 associated members (National University Library, UL Central Technical Library, UL InnovationDevelopment Institute). UL ranks among the top 3% of universities in the world. UL is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia. It contributes almost half of the research results of Slovenia. UL encourages interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary study, exchanges results of achievements in science and art with other universities and scientific research institutions, thus contributing to the Slovenian and global knowledge treasury. Ljubljana’s wide thematic spread and steady level of excellence is documented by the fact, that it is present in 32 Subject in the Shanghai ranking, showing particular strengths in Mathematics, Sciences and Engineering subjects, in Business Administration and Economics as well as in Agricultural and Food Sciences.

UL is the co-founder of the Slovenian Innovation Hub, which operates as a facilitator and promoter of development and research teams in the academic and business sphere and the Institute for Research and Innovation. University is also a member of numerous international networks like EUA, EUTOPIA, The Guild, CELSA, UNICA, Utrecht Network and a member of LERU-CE7 initiative. From 2008, UL is committed to respect the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers and since 2013 by developing the UL Strategy of Researchers’ Career Development UL is the holder of the EC award ‘HR Excellence in Research’.

UL is committed to provide to its researchers excellent working environment and offers them different trainings in generic skills for their career development. UL is very active in international research and education programs. In the programming period 2007-2013 University of Ljubljana altogether cooperated in 745 European projects, including 163 FP7 projects, which ranked UL on the first place in the EU-13 countries among the research organisations (source MIRRIS). We are currently cooperating in 130 HORIZON 2020 projects out of which 31 MSCA projects (11 MSCA ITNs, coordinating two EJDs) and 4 ERC grants as well as 150 ERASMUS+ projects ranks UL at the top of the new member states. UL researchers cooperate also in several NIH, UNESCO, NATO and other international projects. School of Economics and Business (SEB LU) is its biggest member, established in 1946. It provides an international study environment with cross-cultural learning experiences and partnerships with institutions from around the world and is one of the rare schools in the wider region to hold the EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA international accreditations. It is Slovenia’s leading research institution in the fields of business and economics and collaborates in numerous projects, such as Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, H2020, Interreg, Central Europe Programme and others. Researchers are provided with strong support in terms of research infrastructure, resources and access to international companies and networks. Annually, there are more than 400 incoming and 350 outgoing students on mobility studying within 200 worldwide partnerships and around 120 incoming and outgoing faculty mobility. More than 500 international Ba, Ma and Phd students participate in Ljubljana Summer programmes.

Anton Manfreda

Anton Manfreda is an assistant professor in the Department of Business Informatics at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. His area of interest chiefly encompasses research into the business-IS relationship, examining digital transformation from various perspectives, technology adoption and business process management. His work has appeared in International journal of information management, Information Technology & People journal, Journal of enterprise information management and other international and national journals. He has also been a consultant for business process change on several projects in the public and private sector. Both participants are actively involved in several projects related to technology adoption, focusing mostly on the Smart City adoption, Autonomous vehicle adoption and others. They also participated in the EU project FORSEE (regional ICT foresight exercise for southeast European countries). They recently published a research paper “Autonomous vehicles in the smart city era: An empirical study of adoption factors important for millennials” in International Journal of Information Management. Besides, in 2019 they presented a research “Smart City adoption: An interplay of constructive and adverse factors” at EMCIS conference and “Semi and Fully Autonomous Vehicles” at M-Sphere conference.

Aleš Groznik

is a full professor in the Department of Business Informatics at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana. His research interest is in the areas of long range planning of IT and logistics. His research area also covers studies on supply chain management, e-business and information technology management in ever changing business environments. He published over 150 papers in international journals and conferences, amongst them in Supply chain management journal, Journal of enterprise information management and Government information quarterly journal. Both participants are actively involved in several projects related to technology adoption, focusing mostly on the Smart City adoption, Autonomous vehicle adoption and others. Bor Krizmanič

Bor Krizmanič is a teaching assistant in the Department of Business Informatics at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Prior to his employment at the University of Ljubljana, he worked in a large accounting firm in the area of information systems auditing and consulting in the implementation and maintenance of IT solutions. His area of interest includes research in technology adoption and digital transformation. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Information management.

Luka Tomat

Luka Tomat, Ph.D., is a regular member of Academic Unit for Business Informatics and Logistics at Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, where he teaches several information management related courses on graduate and after-graduate level. In his research, he focuses on digital transformation, smart cities, information management, optimization, electronic business, business process management, big data analytics, IT in tourism and IT in healthcare. He also participates at several commercial projects.

Both participant are involved in or responsible for several courses on the undergraduate and postgraduate level, like Business logistics management, Supply Chain Management, IT Strategy, Electronic business, Business process management, Digital business and Supply Chain Digitalization.
